Glean · privacy policy
Glean is a personal finance tracker that runs entirely on your phone. There is no account to create, no server to sign in to, and no copy of your finances anywhere but the device in your hand.

The app does not have permission to use the internet. That is not a policy choice we are asking you to trust — Android enforces it, and you can verify it: the app declares no INTERNET permission, so it cannot send your financial data anywhere even if it tried.
There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDK collecting anything. Nobody, including us, can see your spending.
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Bank and e-wallet notification text | To file a spend the moment it happens, without you typing it | Read and matched on your phone. The raw text is deleted once it has been read — within a day, or a week if it could not be understood. |
| Your transactions, accounts, categories and notes | They are the ledger — the thing the app is for | Stored only in the app's own storage on your phone |
| Receipt photos you attach | Evidence for a tax-relief claim | Copied into the app's private storage. Other apps cannot read them. |
| Voice input, if you dictate an entry | To turn speech into an expense or a search | Handed to Android's own speech recognition. On most phones that service sends the audio to its provider (usually Google) to transcribe it — see below. |
| Crash reports, only if you switch them on | So a crash can be diagnosed instead of guessed at | Written to a file on your phone. Nothing is sent unless you choose to share it, and turning the setting off deletes what was saved. |
Automatic capture is what the app is for, and it needs Android's notification access to work. With it, Glean reads the text of notifications posted by your bank and e-wallet apps — the amount, the merchant, the date, and the last digits of the account. Nothing is captured from any other app.
The app asks before sending you to the Android settings screen, and explains this there in the same words. You can switch the access off at any time in Android settings and capture stops; you can also skip it entirely and add everything by hand.
If you dictate an entry, the app hands the audio to Android's built-in speech recognition. On most phones that is a Google service, and the audio is sent to it to be transcribed — that transcription is not something Glean performs or controls, and what the provider does with it is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.
Voice input is optional and never automatic: it happens only when you tap the microphone. If you would rather nothing at all left the device, type instead — every feature works without it.
Backups and tax exports go wherever you point them, through Android's own file picker. Once a file is in your storage or your cloud drive, it is yours to look after — the app never uploads it, and never touches it again.
Uninstalling the app deletes everything it holds: the ledger, the receipts and any saved crash reports. There is nothing held elsewhere to request the deletion of, because there is nowhere else. Backup files you exported yourself are the one exception — those you delete like any other file.
Glean is a personal finance tool for adults. It is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone.
If the app ever starts doing something this page does not describe, this page changes first, and the in-app wording changes with it. The date at the top is the last time that happened.
